4 Easy Home Projects to Tackle While in Lockdown Revisited
There's no shortage of decluttering, rearranging and cleaning options that will really lift your home and overall mood; plus, with spring here, get some sun and give much-needed love to that garden.
1. Reorganise & Declutter
Entryway – First impressions count, so this is a logical place to start. Has this area become an unwanted parking lot for shoes, and could they be stored elsewhere? Are your coat hooks useful and in the right spots? Take the time to vacuum or shake out internal and external doormats.
Wardrobes – Remove everything from the wardrobe, purge what is no longer required and clean out the interior. Keep frequently used items in the front, and less used items can be stored up higher or separately.
Consider vacuum-packing clothes for the warmer season to create space for all your current winter woollies.
2. Rearrange for a Fresh Look
Furniture – The couch could be pulled out from the wall into the room, and armchairs moved into a grouping. Lamps, rugs and coffee tables could also be relocated to mix things up.
Walls – Photos or artworks can be rearranged to create a fresh look. Do you have lots of empty photo frames lying around? Put them to good use by adding your latest photos and hanging them on the wall, or update older photos with new ones.
For a larger project, you could create an entire Photo Gallery Wall.
3. Cleaning Forgotten Areas
Under Beds – This area can tend to accumulate a lot of dust and dirt, which isn’t great for anyone’s health. Move the bed, audit all storage items found underneath and thoroughly vacuum. You might be lucky enough to find a long-lost item.
Skirting Boards and Vents – Both can sometimes be forgotten in the weekly or monthly cleaning routine. Running a dry microfibre cloth over dusty skirting boards can freshen up a room instantly.
Vents and vent covers can be cleaned out with a dusting brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner. Cleaning out vents (including return air vent and other air filters) can reduce allergens in the air and also increase the efficiency of your heating/cooling system.
Laundry & Bathroom Drawers – Remove all items from the shelves and drawers, throw out old items and thoroughly wipe out with a damp sponge. Be ruthless – if you haven’t used that coconut-infused moisturiser in the last 10 years, you probably never will!
4. Get Your Green Thumb On
Garden Tidy-Up – Roll up your sleeves and get to work on clipping, pruning and landscaping the back and frontyard if you have them.
Prepare to Party – Sort out the entertaining area with a new table and chairs, some colourful hanging plants and outdoor sound system to boost the mood ahead of lockdowns finally lifting!
